New C Compiler in Service Pack 4.5
Service Pack 4.5 introduces the new ImageCraft free C-compiler. If you currently have a compiler, such as the Hi-Tech Pro compiler, there is no reason for you to upgrade. If you currently use the existing ImageCraft compiler, you may want to upgrade to obtain a compiler which supports the latest Cypress devices and includes some additional optimization.
Following are some frequently asked questions regarding the new, free C-compiler in Service Pack 4.5.
Q1. I notice PSoC Designer no longer supports a free, C-compiler from Hi-Tech Software.
A1. This is correct. Hi-Tech Software was purchased by Microchip. The terms of the Cypress agreement with Microchip require us to remove Hi-Tech Lite as our free compiler in PSoC Designer. Our new free compiler is from ImageCraft. It is an improved ImageCraft compiler that supports the latest Cypress devices and includes some additional optimization.
Q2: I am a Hi-Tech Pro customer, what does this mean to me?
A2: Microchip will continue to sell and support the Hi-Tech Pro compiler through the end of September 2009. By the end of September 2009 Cypress will offer a new Cypress Pro compiler to replace the Hi-Tech Pro compiler. Anyone that owns a Hi-Tech Pro compiler at the end of September will be entitled to a free copy of the new Cypress Pro compiler if they have registered at our web site for the new free compiler. This registration web site will be active soon. . The Hi-Tech compiler will still run after September, but Hi-Tech will not provide support.
Q3: I am a Hi-Tech Pro customer and am approaching the max flash size for my design. What can you tell me about the new Pro compiler?
A3: Cypress has a set of benchmark designs for the new Pro compiler. Flash size will be a key metric monitored to determine whether or not the new compiler is ready. While each design is different, we expect Flash size to remain the same or decrease as measured by our benchmarks. |
