When to Use This Family
The PIC16F178X family is well suited for analog intensive applications such as lighting ballast control, LED lighting, Power Factor Correction and motor control. We are also targeting any opportunity to consolidate op amp, 12-bit ADC or DAC functionality into the MCU. In addition, the PIC16F178X family provides a migration path for those currently using the PIC16F785.
