Jared Diamond's first book, "The Third Chimpanzee" was quite good, such as he repudiates romantic notions about tribal people's living in harmony with nature, but then he gets stuck with a thesis about the geographic good luck of Europe to have suitable species for domestication, and doesn't appreciate how much effort and inquisitiveness was put into domestication to bring this about (there's an allusion in Genesis to this when Jacob devotes 14 years to breeding sheep and goats for a specific outcome)
