Getting Over Your Self-Promotion Phobia
There are many promotion tips, such as:
how to make more,
how to communicate with others,
how to study,
and so on.
But sometimes,
before you learn all the techniques to promote yourself,
you have to step out of your own way.
As in, you have to get over your fear of self-promotion.
Think about it:
How can you tackle putting your best foot out there if you're insecure and anxious about how it will all go down.
There's not much sense in spending the time to promote yourself if you doubt what you're doing.
I suggest you that when it comes to promoting yourselves, it's best done with confidence.
That said,
here are a few tips to help you nip your fear of self-promotion in the bud.
When you overcome the perceived horrors of doing so,
you will likely find that self-promotion isn't so bad after all.
You may even grow to love it!
There are many notions of why people are scared to promote themselves.
Some doubt their talent,
others are not good at outreaching or don't see the need for it,
and others think they are too good for it. Keep in mind these truths.
First, self-promotion doesn't make you arrogant.
If you promote yourself and say you're the best xxx in the world,
yes,
that could come off as arrogant.
You want to avoid coming off as snide instead of being able to pinpoint your competitive advantages.
It's all in the way you do it.
Second, promotion is a practice.
Do what you want to do.
Don't care the mind of others.
Finally,
you're worth it!
Many of us admire peers who have a car, or houses.
Why don't you deserve the same?
If you don't feel worthy of using tools to promote yourself,
you may need to revisit the concept of being in life for yourself.
You don't have to be a rockstar marketer,
but you will need to market yourself–and you are worth it.
Even if you're new to company,
you'll never make a name for yourself if you don't tell others what your name is!
I know many people think they need to hold off on promoting themselves because they are not yet ready.
Don't wait.
Right now, it's good to have something to show.
Why?
Because you're going to grow more comfortable with promoting yourself as the months and years go on.
And if you work on acknowledging and getting over those negative mindsets,
you will be able to slowly but surely put yourself out there.
The key is being comfortable in the way you do it.
it's okay if one promotion tactic doesn't work well for you.
If you've ever had this self-promotion fear,
you need to step out of your comfort zone,
but you have to know your strengths and weaknesses, too.
Use them to your advantage.
That said,
you may still have to do things you're not comfortable doing.
The best you can do in those cases is lean on other friends
(other people can be a great resource for comparing notes).
Let them give you a second opinion.
Taking the first step is really the first step.
If you don't try,
you won't get anywhere.
There's no formula to this, guys.
There's no self-promotion academy that you can graduate from with high honors.
Once you realize how vital self-promotion is,
you just have to get out there and give it your best.
Think through your strategy.
Have an elevator pitch.
Be prepared to respond to the “Why should I hire you?” question.
Then go for it.
Because with a little practice and time,
you'll be well on your way to being a well-rounded person that's more than just "the talent".
All above is what I suggest to you,
Good luck!!!
