Thermal prioritization enhancements
In earlier versions of Layout, Layout stopped at the first via that thermals and did not try to thermal other vias in the same connection. If you have planes that have been split into multiple isolated polygons, this behavior made it difficult to tie together plane regions using vias and traces on routing layers. Layout10.0 attempts to thermal every via in the connection and no longer stops at the first successful thermal.
Where no "Preferred" or "Forced" thermal pin existed on a connection, earlier versions of Layout would randomly choose a pin from the connection to thermal into the plane. The randomization was designed to distribute thermals over the widest possible area of the plane but any change to your MAX database could change the randomization results.
Layout10.0 still distributes such pin thermals over the widest possible plane area but uses a priority scheduling algorithm which will not change a pin's plane thermalization unless the pin is physically moved to a new location. |
